South Mountain Co-op Now Accepting Applications for the 2013-14 School Year
  • South Mountain Co-op, a K-12 democratic free school opening this Fall in South Orange, is now accepting applications for the 2013-14 academic year.

Applications, tuition, and financial aid information can be found here:
    http://www.southmountaincoop.org/enrollment/

We will also be hosting four 1-week sessions of summer camp, July 22-August 15. Camp costs $250/week.

South Mountain Co-op’s approach to education is individualized and curiosity driven: students are free to explore the world around them at their own pace and according to their own interests, with the support of the adult staff and school community at large. School governance is collaborative and participatory: each member of the community, regardless of age or role, has an equal say in the consensus decision-making process and running of the school. We are dedicated to creating and maintaining an environment of trust and respect; supporting students on their individual learning paths; and fostering strong connections to fellow South Mountain Co-op members, to families, and to the surrounding community.
  • Where in South Orange will the school be located?
  • Is this only for SO/M families? I know someone in East Orange with a rising 11th grader who might be interested in your school.

We have negotiated a lease with a church in South Orange Village (walking distance to the train and parks), but we are waiting for word on our Use Application with the town before finalizing the lease. We have a couple of back-ups in mind if for some reason our application is turned down. We should have final word soon.

The school is not limited to SOMA residents. Please spread the word!

    Thanks!

We will be registered with the State of NJ Department of Education, but there are no state requirements (nor even opportunities) for accreditation here like there are in neighboring states.

We will be a member school of the Alternative Education Resource Organization.
